All the Way Opens the Season on SCR' Segerstrom Stage Underwritten by The Family of Hal Schultz and U.S. Bank
COSTA MESA, Calif. (September 9, 2016) – Robert Schenkkan’s Tony Award-winning All the Way opened tonight on the Segerstrom Stage at South Coast Repertory, directed by SCR Artistic Director Marc Masterson and underwritten by Individual Honorary Producer The Family of Hal Schultz and Corporate Honorary Producer U.S. Bank.
Appearing onstage to welcome First Nighters and their guests was Managing Director Paula Tomei, who echoed the excitement that has spread through the theatre during rehearsals for All the Way. “We’re thrilled to open the season with this powerful Tony Award winner.”
Joining Tomei onstage was Alan Slutzky, newly-elected president of SCR’s Board of Trustees. Slutzky acknowledged Founding Artistic Directors David Emmes and Martin Benson and gave a special nod to the new First Nights subscribers. “We are grateful that you have joined us for our 53rd Season, which is supported in part by the annual gifts from our First Nights family. Welcome!”
Tomei thanked the underwriters for helping to produce Robert Schenkkan’s compelling historical drama, with its cast of 18 actors portraying more than 60 characters—both real and fictional. “Without support from our Honorary Producers, such an ambitious undertaking would not be possible,” she reminded First Nighters.
Tomei spoke fondly of the late Hal Schultz, who was a member of the Board of Trustees from 1990 to 2000, serving two years as president. “Hal was passionate about theatre in all its forms, and we’re grateful to his family for celebrating his life and his devotion to SCR by underwriting this production.” She then asked the family members to stand as the audience applauded his wife Melody, daughter Marcie and sons Charles and Jason.
Slutzky stepped forward to acknowledge the play’s other underwriter, U.S. Bank, a loyal supporter and honorary corporate producer of eleven SCR shows over the years. “Tonight we’re pleased to have with us Joseph Hensley, U.S. Bank’s Market President for Orange County
Finally, he thanked the play’s Media Partner KPCC 89.3 Southern California Public Radio, represented by Digital Designer Katie Briggs, encouraged everyone to enjoy the show and stay afterwards for an upscale version of LBJ’s downhome barbeque at the Cast Party on Ela’s Terrace.
