Venus in Fur Opens at South Coast Repertory
First Argyros Stage production of 51st Season Underwritten by Geoff and Valerie Fearns
COSTA MESA, CA, October 10, 2014. South Coast Repertory Board President Sophie Cripe welcomed an enthusiastic audience of SCR supporters to First Night of Venus in Fur by David Ives, directed by Casey Stangl and generously underwritten by Geoff and Valerie Fearns.
After acknowledging the theatre’s Founding Artistic Directors David Emmes and Martin Benson, Cripe introduced Artistic Director Marc Masterson and Managing Director Paula Tomei.
Tomei thanked First Nighters for their support and commitment to SCR’s work, welcomed new First Nights subscribers and introduced two special friends, Julia and George Argyros.
“In just a few moments, lightning will flash and thunder will roar,” Masterson told First Nighters, “and you’ll know SCR’s Argyros Stage season has officially begun—with a play that literally took Broadway by storm. We’re pleased to introduce our audiences to this smart and sexy comedy in our own production, deftly directed by Casey Stangl with two amazing actors, Graham Hamilton and Jaimi Paige.”
Cripe thanked the Fearns for helping underwrite Venus in Fur—their fourth time as Honorary Producers. “Valerie just completed nine years as an SCR trustee, and she and Geoff have been First Nights subscribers for over 20 years. Please read all about this dynamic couple in your program.”
Tomei thanked Media Partner Coast magazine, represented by Director of Operations Monica Hernandez, and invited everyone to the Cast Party on the terrace after the show.
Among the First Night subscribers and their guests were: Julia & George Argyros, Geoff & Valerie Fearns, James Fearns & Aileen Diaz, Rich & Linda Ruben, Debra Gunn Downing & Charles Kanter, Tim & Janet Rafalovich, John Campbell, Hoa Duong and guests Dan & Ann Adams, Clay & Terri Friedman, Paul & Kristin Godby, Gary & Rose Guesman, Barbara Tingley and Sandra Muse.
