Kneehigh Production Underwritten by Sophie and Larry Cripe & Steve and Laurie Duncan
COSTA MESA, CA, January 30, 2015. Sophia Cripe, South Coast Repertory Board President (and Honorary Producer with her husband, Larry), welcomed an enthusiastic audience of SCR supporters to First Night of Kneehigh’s Tristan & Yseult, underwritten by the Cripes and Steve and Laurie Duncan.
After acknowledging Founding Artistic Directors David Emmes and Martin Benson, Sophie introduced Artistic Director Marc Masterson and Managing Director Paula Tomei.
Masterson talked about Kneehigh’s origins in Cornwall, England, and brought everyone up-to-date on its recent hits, which include a critically-acclaimed production of Brief Encounter. “This is Southern California’s only production of Tristan & Yseult. We are pleased to be able to host this fabulous company—and hope for an ongoing relationship that will see Kneehigh back here soon.”
After introducing Kneehigh’s Chief Executive & Executive Producer, Paul Crewes, Tomei acknowledged the underwriters, noted their history with SCR and encouraged First Nighters to read more about them in the program.
Besides being Board president, Sophie was vice chair of the 50th Season Gala. She and Larry served as Honorary Producers of the Pacific Playwrights Festival for four years and are current members of the Playwrights Circle. As individual underwriters, they helped produced last seasons’s Death of a Salesman.
Tomei added that the Duncans were not able to attend First Night but had enjoyed the show during previews. Steve is an SCR trustee and the couple are Platinun Circle members, Gala underwriters and subscribers to First Nights on both stages. Last season, they helped underwrite 4,000 Miles.
Cripe thanked Media Partner Orange County Business Journal, represented by Publisher Richard Reisman, and invited everyone to the Cast Party co-sponsored by The Westin South Coast Plaza in the hotel’s Plaza Ballroom.
Among the First Night subscribers and their guests were: Sam and Tammy Tang with Phil and Sara Pfirrmann, Leona Aronoff-Sadacca and Joe Sadacca, Diana Hasenbalg, Barbara and David Cline with Bob Kul & Lisa Perrine, Tom Taylor with Massy Farzine, Mike Vantrease and Garth Jordahl.
