South Coast Repertory's Acting Intensive Program, now in it's 5​1​st year, is a nationally renowned seven-week summer program for serious acting students, ages 18 and over. In this distinctive program, ​founded in 197​0, our faculty of working professional teaching-artists will help you to ​strengthen your personal artistic ​talents as well as give you guidance on areas that need more focus. The Acting Intensive Program is specially designed for aspiring actors who are ready to bring the tools and techniques of their training into a professional environment.

SCR’s Acting Intensive Program will

  • Provides you with comprehensive instruction and candid feedback from industry professionals
  • Equips you with insights and practical tools for possible career paths in theatre, television, and film
  • Guides you toward a plan of action with which you can continue to strengthen and deepen your talent

All classes are held in the stimulating environment of Tony Award-winning ​SCR, one of the nation's leading resident theatres. In small classes, students benefit from a consistent opportunity to work and challenge themselves daily. A distinguished faculty of working theatre artists provides the highest quality instruction, including individualized career feedback.

SCR’s access to Southern California's vibrant entertainment industry allows the program to offer special seminars by distinguished guest artists drawn from the area's rich pool of theatre, film and television professionals. The program culminates in a final scene presentation on the ​Nicholas Stage to which company members may invite family, friends, and industry guests.

Enrollment in the Acting Intensive Program is by audition only. Applications will be accepted Feb​.1​-May ​​​9, 20​2​​2. Applicants must be 18 or older. All applicants must submit:

  • Completed ​application. Download now.
  • Resume and photograph (8 x 10 preferred)
  • $2​5 nonrefundable application fee

Upon receipt of application, SCR will contact students to schedule an audition/interview. Auditions are on a rolling schedule and take place one or two days each month. Overseas students and those unable to visit California to audition may submit an audition video link via email. Auditions should consist of two contrasting monologues from any play, one of which may be classical, total length not to exceed five minutes. Notification will be at the  program director's discretion​ and applicants will be notified of their acceptance within three weeks of their audition.

Tuition for the seven-week course is $2​,​925. An initial deposit of $​​1,000 is due upon acceptance into the program. The balance may be paid in full by the first day of class, or in ​two equal installments of $​​​9​62.50 each, with the final payment due by the sixth week of the program. ​For direct questions regarding tuition, ​contact ​Nick Slimmer at (714) 708-5549 or email [email protected]. The strength of the program is demonstrated by the successes of graduates who are now working professionals. Former students have appeared on television, in major motion pictures, in numerous South Coast Repertory productions and at resident theatres across the country. Among the graduates are Will Ferrell ("Saturday Night Live," Anchorman: The Legend Continues), Allison Case (Hair! and Mamma Mia! on Broadway, "Nurse Jackie"), Ary Katz ("Bones," J. Edgar) and Arye Gross (Donald Margulies' Brooklyn Boy, Richard Greenberg’s Our Mother’s Brief Affair and a recurring role on "Castle").
